Randy Meisner Try and Love Again

Tucked away nigh the cease of Hotel California, which turns 45 this week, is the last song Randy wrote during his tenure with the Eagles, "Attempt And Love Again." Today, the song is considered a deep rail, known just to hardcore fans, but, as we will see beneath, it was a hit with gimmicky critics, who felt information technology was the highlight of the album. What sets it apart from Randy's signature song, "Take It To The Limit," in my stance, is that it is all Randy. At that place are no Don Henley/Glenn Frey co-credits here. The lyrics are sweet, pure, and hopeful. Randy may not have had Henley's English literature groundwork, just he was able to convey just as much in a simple phrase, such as "Right or wrong, what's done is done, It's only moments that you lot infringe." The song deserved to be a hit, but possibly it'southward best that it remained in obscurity and was never overplayed on the radio, similar the championship rail. This way, it can proceed beingness our piffling secret. Something we can pull out when people say, "Who'southward Randy Meisner?" Well, hither he is.

"'Attempt And Honey Again' is bassist Randy Meisner'southward only written contribution to Hotel California, and fifty-fifty though information technology's a far weep from his 'Take Information technology To The Limit,' it's one of the few typical things on the new LP. Containing elements of folk, country and stone music, information technology's another semi-bitter love vocal served upward in a disarming way. Meisner'due south vocals, as always, are perfectly tailored to the lyrical message."
–Daily Record Lord's day (Morristown, NJ), January 2d, 1977

Some critics felt that "Endeavour And Love Again" was the only song that represented the Eagles signature sound:

"Traditionally, the Eagles accept come to be known for fluid, upbeat country with a pinch of rock and a dash curl now and then. For the dyed-in-the-wool fan, there is plenty of that on the album, also. "Try And Honey Again," and the title cut, 'Hotel California' are very good examples of what has helped the Eagles feather their nest."
–The Times (Shreveport, LA), Jan ninth, 1977

"There are remnants (as in 'Effort And Dearest Again') of the strong pb vocals backed by a sugariness chorus."
–Greenish Bay Press Gazette, January 2nd, 1977

Ooh, the look was in her optics
You never know what might be establish in that location
She was dancing right in fourth dimension
And the moves she made so fine
Like the music that surrounds her

Oh, oh, oh, oh, I'm gonna endeavor and love again

Sometimes you need a friend

Gonna try
Gonna effort
Gonna try, gonna try, gonna try, gonna attempt
Gonna attempt, gonna try, gonna try, gonna effort
